Around the corner from Attica sits Rippon Lea — one of the last great 19th-century suburban estates on Earth, complete with its own private lake.
Federici's Seat
In 1888, the baritone Federici played Mephistopheles at Melbourne's Princess Theatre and died as the trapdoor lowered him to hell on closing note. The cast swore he took the curtain call regardless. For a century the theatre kept an empty seat in the dress circle open for him on every opening night.
The local landmark
Rippon Lea Estate, Melbourne stands as Melbourne's defining structure — the sight that anchors the city in memory long after the meal is finished.
