A few steps from the hawker stalls, what is venerated as a tooth of the Buddha rests inside a stupa crafted from over 300 kg of solid gold.
The Boy Who Turned the Hill Red
When swordfish attacked Singapore's shore, a boy told the Sultan to build a wall of banana stems — the fish struck, stuck fast, and the sea was safe. The Sultan, warned that a child so clever would one day take his throne, had him killed on the hill, which blushed red with the deed. It is called Bukit Merah, Red Hill, still.
The local landmark
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Singapore stands as Singapore's defining structure — the sight that anchors the city in memory long after the meal is finished.
