A hat said to have been left behind by a young, broke Napoleon Bonaparte as payment for his bill is still displayed inside Le Procope.
The Devil of Vauvert
In the Middle Ages, the lands just south of Saint-Germain were haunted by the shrieking devil of Vauvert — green, half-serpent, hurling stones at travelers — until Saint Louis gave the cursed grounds to monks to quiet it. Parisians still send the unwanted 'au diable Vauvert': to the devil's own address.
The local landmark
Église de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris stands as Paris's defining structure — the sight that anchors the city in memory long after the meal is finished.
